Kathleen has a doctor friend in Ca who spoke with Jon's doc and they agreed to try large doses of vitamin C. added to Jon's regimen.so we spent the morning and early afternoon at Jon's oncologist's office getting the treatment. It was tiring for Jon so he sleeping as I type. (And my shoulder is aching beyond belief, damn I despise getting older!) His weight was the same as last friday which was the same as the week before. (A good sign!)
We have been pureeing various soups for Jon and he has been able to keep them down for a reasonble amount of time.
His spirits seem well although his energy could stand some major improvement. One benifit of the vitamin C is supposed to be increases energy. We are all praying for the combo chemo and vitamins to have a positive effect.
Laura was here yesterday to visit, she brought her kind heart and some vitamins for Jon to try, we will keep up the attack on his disease with medicine, hope, prayer, and love.
Much love and thanks for caring about my brother!
p.s. I have been to lazy to "edit" any more pics lately but I did get some groaner jokes I will be more than happy to share!
Two peanuts walk into a bar. One was a salted.
A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says "I'll serve you, but don't start anything."
A sandwich walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Sorry we don't serve food in here."
A dyslexic man walks into a bra.
A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says: " A beer please, and one for the road."
Two antennas meet on a roof, fall in love and get married. The ceremony wasn't much but the reception was great.
Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: "Does this taste funny to you?"
"Doc, I can't stop singing 'The Green, Green Grass of Home'." "That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome." "Is it common?" "It's not unusual."
Two cows standing next to each other in a field, Daisy says to Dolly "I was artificially inseminated this morning." "I don't believe you," said Dolly. "It's true, no bull!"
Two hydrogen atoms walk into a bar. One says, "I've lost my electron." The other says, "Are you sure?" The first replies, "Yes, I'm positive..."
A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet and says, "My dog's cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him?" "Well," says the vet, "let's have a look at him." So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes, then checks his teeth. Finally, he says, "I'm going to have to put him down." "What, just because he's cross-eyed?" "No, because he's really heavy."
I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.
I went to the butcher's the other day and I bet him $50 that he couldn't reach the meat off the top shelf. He said, "No, the steaks are too high."
I went to a seafood disco rave last week.... and pulled a mussel.
Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly; but when they lit a fire in the craft, it sank, proving once
and for all that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.
What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fsh.
Two fish swim into a concrete wall. One turns to the other and says, "dam."

It is Saturday night. Jon is lying down reading a book. Claire, her lovely daughters and I watched the movie "Adaptation" after enjoying a delicious " Irish Chow" dinner.
The last week was busy and I was lazy, so please accept my apologies for not writing you all.
A week ago Friday... Kathleen, Claire, and Jon saw Jon's oncologist before his chemo session. The gist of the conversation was that Jon must get his digestive tract to function or he is running out of options. He wanted me to publish this earlier but I resisted until we saw the doctor yesterday and had the chemo session. We are not giving up hope, the chemo sessions are continuing, and we are trying every thing we can imagine to get Jon well. Kathleen has done more research and found that infusions of vitamin C also help with cancer treatment so we have started that along with the usual vitamins injected into his " TPN". Jon is very fatigued and has had some reactions to the chemo, his tongue has some sores which make it difficult to speak. So if you want to wish him well or express your concerns please post on this blog.
Thanks again for visiting us here and much love to all

I just got off the phone with Claire, Kathleen, and Jon. (Cate is there also) It appears that none and I mean NONE of them have seen on this page since I posted the pic of my irish brother. Life is full of surprises that way. Claire spent the week with Jon and is making plans to go home and see her lovely daughters freshly returned from spring break. Kathleen is on her way home and Cate is staying for awhile to keep my brother from mischief. Jon had chemo of friday and his pain meds were increased. The antifungal treatments are over so that is one less pump to fiddle with. I will arrive sometime in the afternoon on Monday and Doc Laura is coming for visit around noon.
I hope all is well with you and yours!

Happy St Patty's Day!

I said I missed my snow blower, I should have said I truly disliked owning a snow blower. We are on course to receive 6" to 12" of the fluffy stuff. (For those of you who don't know I live 15 miles east of Cleveland and 1 mile from the lake.)Last night my bride and I went to the grocery and stocked up on foodstuffs. At least we will have to the ability to be fat and happy while stranded in our snow covered igloo. Claire and Jon are staying home and taking it easy. Jon's energy level is down from the chemo so he will not be running any marathons soon. There has been mixed success on the food intake but overall some progress is better than none. The oh so lovely Queen Kathleen will be arriving Thursday to spell Claire and I should be arriving back in Derbyville on Sun or Mon.
Thanks for checking up on us!
p.s. What possessed me to put up all my winter clothes already?
p.s.s Did you know our sister Beth had surgery on her right arm last week? The little stinker did not want to steal any attention or good wishes from Jon. Last we talked she is doing well and is still able to smack the back of Bryan's head with her left hand.

Laura took this picture on New Years Day.

Holy Moly it's cold up here! I miss the warm weather of Ky but I missed my awesome wife more. I got home Saturday and got a peek at her new car. It's almost as pretty as she is. I called Jon's late Saturday afternoon and apologized for not calling them earlier to tell them I got home safe and sound. Queen Claire is still smoothing the furrows in my brothers brow and reported it was a nice lazy day for both of them. Jon was tired from the chemo and all the activity of Friday, he did have more pasta for lunch and we are confident he will keep this momentum going.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend!

Jon and I had a busy day today. After he awoke and showered, we changed all his dressings, gave him his antifungal, and went for chemo. We got back around 6 and started the dressings all over again. Jon tolerated the chemo fairly well, and even had tomato soup with macaroni for dinner.
The lovely and fair Claire, Firey tressed daughter of the Emerald Isles has arrived. Jon always perks up when she arrives. I will be going home in a few hours after I nap. My wife tells me there is 4" of the white stuff on the ground. I can't wait to get back home to my snow blower!
Vital stats update, Jon's weight was the same as last week.
The right knuckles do taste better!

Wow this week seems to be flying by. Last evening we tried some cream of broccoli soup and Jon kept it down. We were able to experiment with some sherbet and sorbet which he held onto also. The Boost was not a success, (I suspect it was too rich in protein for his fragile system.) Today is a slow day so far, he was in some pain upon wakening and I think when he is in pain at night his sleep and rest are sorely affected. So right now Jon is taking a nap and I am shielding him from outside interferance. Anna was by to visit on her birthday and bring some well wishes for Jon, it was nice to meet her.
More to come later!
p.s where are all the pics?
Beth sent me this picture of Kathleen from our father's birthday party. Classy ain't she?

Yesterday was fairly produtive for Jon. Doc Laura was here in the afternoon, she brought some soothing music and some chai tea for Jon to enjoy. She even took him for a 10 minute walk. (Doctor's orders) He tried some broth in the afternoon and tomato soup last night, he kept it down for 45 minutes and we tried some sherbet this morning with the same success. Of special interest to Tony G., Jon really enjoyed the homemade broth and even had some digestive success 2 days in a row! He is sleeping right now and we will try to walk some more today.

The Boiled n Broiled Ladies survived
As you can see from the pic from Saturday, the ladies were cooked to a lovely shade of medium. To a person they have all stated the sweat lodge was a positive experience. Tis a lovely monday here in the Derbv City. We have changed Jon's bandages, he has had the antifungal meds already and we are working on the hydration. Doc Laura is here to visit, she brings kind healing thoughts and words. Claire and her lovely princesses went home yesterday along with Kathleen and Libby. All concerned made it home safe and sound. I am out to run some errands and satisfy my fast food urges. More to come later...
